Cardinal Tetras

Not a good idea to cycle with Cardinals =( They are <3

Water changes water changes water changes...

Whenever you get a chance squeeze the sponge from another tank near your intake..

I did a 4 day cycle. I took a biomax bag from my 20 gallon and threw it into my fluval 404 then squeezed gunk into it every other day..

If you can get your hands on a product called Bio Spira (the only bacteria-in-a-bottle that works) is it reported to speed up the cycle considerably.

No bio-spira around here.

I came home to two more deaths tonight. Last 5 remaining. Did a water change after dinner (around 35-40%) as well as squeezed the bio juices from my sons Whisper 3 (two large cartridges) into the mix post the water change.

I got Nitrate and Nitrite kits, so I will get measurements. Probably should have done that prior to water change, but.... oops.

Thanks!

Ted

Readings 3 hours after water change (fluvals move water of tank 5x per hour according to specs):

PH - 7.0
Amonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 5 ppm

Let me know what that means. I have an idea, but probably wrong... Thanks all!

Ted

Update -- Still 5 Cardinals and looking good. Nice grouping and eating. Clowns appear okay, though they don't come out of the underbelly of the driftwood much.

Thanks all for your input. hopefully new batch of cardninals will be arriving shortly to get me back to the dozen or so I want to get established.

Thanks!

Ted
