I don't plan to get any corals until I can upgrade my lighting, but I have a single button polyp (pictured here in case I'm wrong http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117626).

I currently have a single 48" Coralife 50/50 (50% daylight 6000K, 50% Actinic 03 Blue) lighting a 75g aquarium. Light is on 12 hours a day. I have been feeding it 2-4 times a week depending on my work schedule - mostly types of shrimp (frozen: brine, krill and raw shrimp from the grocery store).

It seems to be doing well and has grown noticeably - about a 50% increase in size in about 3-4 weeks.

Is there anything else I should be doing to keep it in good health and perhaps encourage it to grow/split?

Button polyps are pretty much bullet proof. How many watts is the light? Button polyps don't need a lot of light; with your feeding schedule it will probably do just fine.

After you upgrade the lights, make sure the button isn't near any rocks you don't want it to spread too. They grow like weeds under the right conditions.
