Care of freshwater clams

Hello everyone!! Newbie here!!

I have kept Clams for over 2 years in a 180 litre coldwater tank with large fantails, and I must say they are an absolute joy to keep!!!
Coldwater Clam filtre a huge ammount of water for food and spend all their lives under the gravel doing this, so you have to remember to feed your fish, slightly extra, and keep their diet very varied...you will be rewarded with near perfect water quality as Clam help considerably with the tank enviroment, as long as you test and do 3rd tank water changes on a regular basis....If your clam appears on the gravel for some reason, you will also be rewarded with a fascinating display from the clam as he digs his way back under the gravel...their fleshy white "foot" will appear and feel about for a nice spot, and then they will dig sometimes quite vigourusly, untill they are out of sight again!
I will be more than happy to answer anyones questions about coldwater clam!

Hello, first posting here. I did the bad thin and found my guy/girl at a lake on 4th of July and brought him/her home with a fresh water ramhorn snail that I also found very near to him/her. I had a nicely established tank and have rearrange the tank to be able to easily keep an eye on him/her. He/she seems to be happy and has cleaned my water to an amazing degree. I also have a ghost shrimp and a constantly rotating population of snails (couple dozen egg pouches at any time) and 4 fish small neons (1 1/2 inches) all in a 10gal. I know it's small but they are doing so very well and I no longer need a particle filter in my whisper 5-15.

How can I identify his/her gander?

Can I use any plant food that will not harm him/her?

Aside from extra fish food, do you have any suggestions for what can I supplement his/her diet to ensure he/she isn't going to starve.

After all I want him/her to be happy as a clam can be.
