I got some Briggs from an AC member, they are beautiful!!
I wanted to do veggies for them, I don't have any squash/zuchinni on hand and I know that lettuce is not nutritious at all, I have carrots in the fridge can they be boiled and fed to them?

I feed mine baby carrots straight from the fridge. I feel that when you boil/steam them, they turn to mush in the tank much quicker ;)

Blanching vegetables will make it easier for invertebrates to eat. It also increases the potency of vitamins in carrots. This is also true of many veggtables, like spinach, but not all.

I diced and blanched a baby carrot...we'll see how they like it!!

Is there any vegetable that is unsafe for Briggs? thats probably a better question that "is this veggie ok...or how about this one?...or maybe this one lol"

here's a picture!!

my RCS like to ride around the the snails lol

I want to try the baby carrots now. LOL I usually stick with zucchini, peas, romaine lettuce, mustard greens, snello.

How long have you had your snails? I ask because I became alarmed when I saw the moss in the bottom of the tank. I'm hoping someone else will chime in. I've had many snail deaths from them seemingly getting caught in the moss. I also have it floating attached to corks and they get tangled in that too.

Oh and my shrimp love snail rides too. LOL Lazy buggers.

I've had them for 2 days. I've never heard of them getting stuck in the moss, but I will keep an eye out for it!
The moss is only in 1/4 of the tank the back 3/4 are still open.

If your lettuce is romaine/darker leafy than you're actually not that bad off. Iceberg is the exception. I tried romaine once, but it was unwieldy in my tank - I like 1/2" slabs of zucchini frozen and then thawed slightly before skewering with a fork. The freeze/thaw softens them a little but still allows the veg to sit in the tank for more than 24 hours, which gives the snails/fish more time to eat it. Mine is gone completely in less than 2 days.

When I do the large leaf lettuce, I use plant anchors (free from Petsmart) pierced through the leaf and wrapped around the stem to weigh it down. You probably already know this, but thought I'd share. LOL

I only had Iceberg lettuce in the house, but they nommed up the carrots. There are a few pieces left, but the snails are still eating it. So if they aren't done by tonight ( or reasonably close to being done ) I'll pull it out.

That is a great idea! I hadn't thought of that :D

How long did you blanch your carrots? I boiled til they started to get soft. The shrimp are all over it, but the snails not so much. Maybe because it's new to them? Will take a while for them to realize it's food?
