Today while during a water change I have come to conclude the Cascade 1000 canister filter isnt really good and filtered anything but the water near it. I am assuming its somewhere around 256gph. So I was wondering, I also have a powerhead that flows 300gph. Now I dont think I can run a power head force feeding the canister filter while the canister itself is running can I?

It cleans the tank 4.6times per hour, 5.2 with the power head. What ways can I make this canister filter have more juice for the next month or two before I switch to a bigger tank?

Don't force feed the canister. Instead, set up the powerhead so that it moves the water around the tank better, getting the "dirty" water over to the filter, so that it can clean it. Based on your math above, I'm assuming that you have a 55 gal? If so, think about getting another filter (maybe a HOB filter) for the other side of the tank, and run both.

Depending on your stocking level and species kept, the Cascade may be able to do an adequate job, and it may not.

Ya I have the intake on one end, and the outlet and powerhead at the other. Outlet on the surface and today I just moved the powerhead down to the gravel blowing around the driftwood near the inlet area. I plan to get a 240gal hopefully within 8 weeks, so the only other pump would be a 5,000+gph pump. Ya its a 55gal so I dont need it to be cleaned 90 times a minute! Maybe I just expect to much from these filters, I always expected when waste to float buy within 5" it would get sucked up. Things 1" away sometimes go by. I am stocked currently pretty heavy though, so that could all be the problem..
