guy near me has one for sale says all is ok with it

i want it for possibly a 55 gallon with a few neons and briggs,.. and kulies

question it a bottom tank of a double stand will a canister work well with this being so close to the ground? and if so will this one work with it,.. he wants 45.00

need info asap as i want to get it today if its ok,..perhaps if good but not for a 55 then i have other set up i could use it for,..

i never had cascades,..

Cascades are ok. Usually you can get them new for cheaper than most cansiter filters. They do have some bypass though. Does the filter have media with it? I sold my cascade 1000 without media for $50, so $45 for the 700 seems a little high to me. I mean you can get a new 700 for $68 off kens fish so I guess it's not too bad.

FWIW, I had a Cascade 1000 for a while, and absolutely hated it. It was difficult to get and keep a prime, and the flow rate was very disappointing, even with clean media. with dirty media, forget it.

I'll never own another one again.

Everyone's right about the flow rate being disappointing, I'm afraid. I had a Cascade 500 which was ok on a 29 gallon tank with another power filter. By itself, it could maybe filter a 20 gallon tank...

I got a used Cascade 1000 and it was a bulky monster. Lots of room for media but again, the flow rate didn't impress.

What about getting a SunSun canister? Huge amount of space, only $44 and $15 shipping. 265 gph instead of 185 gph which is what the Cascade 700 is.

i already have a sun sun,.. just was figuring it was 20 minutes from me and was hoping for similar performance from it like the sun sun,.. the flow from sun sun isn't impressive either,.

so i guess i'll pass on it then,..

Well, I'm afraid you won't find it similar to the performance of the SunSun then, since it is rated at 40% less flow. If you want a lot of flow, the Magnum HOTs are great - and would be terrific for a tank on the lower rack, IMO.

The flow from any filter becomes less impressive after a while...

We get used to the flow and decide we want more...

Heck, my FX5 doesnt have "impressive" flow either, but only cause im spoiled on it, and its never enough.

One day, I'll plug in a filter thats blows the opposite pane out of my setup... Then I'll have OK flow :)

I would offer the guy 30 and deal from there.

I love having two filters, for directional adjustments, and maintenance ease(without the mini-cycle worries).

BTW, I had a 700 and truthfully thought it was an ok filter, and had it on a 55. It was the only one and on an Oscar only tank. It got its share of gold scales and fins... It did have some bypass, but you can solve that by wrapping the trays with some twisted poly-floss, and taping over the wrap with teflon tape. Worked great for me...

i have 2 hot mags, now and they plug too fast,.. i even adjusted them as per cogunner,..lol not what i was wanting,..

also i talked him down fron 60. lol

From 60 huh? Yeah, I would try looking elsewhere, or just buy it and forget about everyone's opinions. I realized you asked, but im thinking you are gonna get it anyway and were hoping for a more positive response.

If you asked that same Q at the planted tank forum, you would have received more positives than negatives. Its all really a matter of opinion, and you should form one for yourself. Just go get the filter and enjoy a new(used) toy. I think that's what I would do.

In My Opinion of course :)
