I guess it just depends on what your pet issues are. If that's your thing, then that's your thing! I prefer not to eat meat - I haven't for over a decade. I feel like it's a small, almost imperceptible sacrifice for me, and over the course of a lifetime I'll have reduced my footprint by that much less. Same with water conservation, driving an efficient car, etc. I don't feel it is my place to influence people to do these things, although fortunately many young people (our future generation) are finding out all by themselves that these are things we need to seriously consider doing, and we can't just keep going about our old wasteful ways indefinitely.
Ironically, if you want to buy American, Penn Plax HQ is based in NY. Unfortunately their product in question (Cascade canisters) seem to be inferior to SunSun/Grech canisters - so most people will choose the superior product, regardless of origin. And most people will continue eating meat, driving big cars, and watering their turfgrass lawns with sprinklers.
