Do cats need to go to the vet if they have their babies before they are ready? A stray adopted us about a month ago. She showed up in my garage after a huge storm one night, she was scared of us at first (I assume she was dumped) because she was scared but interested, not running the second she spotted a human. I put some food and water out there for her because she looked so thin and seemed to have a hard time walking with her back legs. After about a week she allowed us to pet her, and you could feel every bone in her little body. I noticed her belly was slightly big and wasn't sure if she was pregnant or if she had developed a bigger belly from starving to starting to eat. She then started coming in the house with us and has been here ever since. Her belly never really got much bigger, but the other night I noticed her acting very strange and looking like a cat ready to have babies. I made a box in the laundry room and put her food and water in there. Nothing happened. Then today...she "delivered" but they were not fully developed and were still born. It was sad to see them to say the least, but now I am wondering do I need to take her to a vet, I have never had a cat deliver undeveloped babies before?

No, and yes. No, she should be fine without a vet check up...but yes, because this is the BEST time to get her spayed. She most likely lost the babies because she was malnourished during the pregnancy.

Have to agree with OG on this one. From your description, it sounds like she may have some injuries that need attending to as well. Having a miscarriage in and of itself could indicate further unseen problems. I have had cats miscarry before without needing a vet. Sometimes it happens for no apparent reason. If you cannot afford to have her spayed there are places to get it at a discount price. I think the ASPCA offers a coupon for partial price reduction but it depends on where you live.

Thanks Orion and Excuzze! I planned on once I thought I could get her in a carrier taking her for at least shots and check up, but it looks like I should go on and take her now. She has become very lovable and follows me everywhere I go, so getting her in may not be to bad.
