I am upgrading toa 36 bowfront. I plan to put the fish and plants in my qt while I set up the 36. How do I catch the shrimp and keep them in the net to get them to the qt?

You can set up a shrimp trap by cutting 1/3 top of a soda bottle off and then inverting it into the rest of the bottle. Then you place food inside and you should have some shrimp inside it in no time!

Wow, that's a really good idea. Never thought of it. I've always just netted them out. Such a pain.

shrimp fly out of nets. i dump them into a covered cup full of tank water to transport them..
catching shrimp is good practice for catching fish which seem to stress much easier than shrimp..

I have a similar trap that I use to catch my little Otos...but...i catch more shrimp than Otos. ;o)

I use a pint glass and herd the shrimp into it with my hand. I wouldn't use a net because it is likely to damage the shrimp.

Also don't forget to poke some holes into the bottle, you want some water flow in the container too.

Hamsterman, if I bait the trap at night should they be trapped by morning? What prevents them from finding their way out?. This weekend is the big move.

I use a brine shrimp net to handle all my shrimp.

I have tansported them into a bucket, a la siphon...

they flip around a bit when out of water, so beware of jumpers.

never built the shrimp trap, but have heard they work very well.
