I need to move my cherry shrimp, snails & tiny fish. I want to move the tank & replace the substrate. I'm guessing I can net the ones I see but maybe a bottle trap for the tinier shrimp & snails or even vacuuming them up.

What's the easiest (or safest, fastest) technique?

1st... Good luck! It's not easy. lol

I used a brine net with a small piece of algae wafer.... move shrimp collected after a few hours, repeat. There may be better ways.

I collect after feeding. It is time consuming and a pita. You can also gently siphon smaller shrimp (I often do it by accident with no ill effects). It is, at best, a test of patience.

Thanks guys! I guess I'll see how it goes once I get the plants out. I have a feeling I'll be catching some in the bucket from the java moss too. As long as I find a few MTS, pond & ramshorn snails they should repopulate ok.

I'm going invert only in a 10g, well maybe the rasbora micros too. They're so tiny, I'm not sure how many I have, 3 or 4 I think.

good luck, its a teadious task but needs must. hope you have time on your hands.

Does anyone think it'd be cruel to put the old substrate in a bucket for a while & see if any other critters show up? After catching all I reasonably can, of course.

Although I'm a stay at home fish only mom there are limits. I need to move things so the electrician can add outlets for more tanks

thats what i did with my snails, only ponds and rams and checked every 2 days and picked out any i saw.
