Catfish and goldfish?

Good afternoon all,

What, if any, type of catfish would be appropriate for a 29g with one Ryukin?

I realize that since goldfish themselves go after the loose food on the bottom of the tank, that those aren't necessary for scavenging. However, I do love them, and thinking that also perhaps once I add a 2nd goldie, that leftover food would be kept to an absolute minimum.

I'd kept corys and Julii cats in the past, and also find pictus cats attractive.

Recommendations?

Well, goldfish are coolwater fish while almost all catfish are tropicals. I wouldn't really advise mixing of the two, as the temp requirements are different.

That having been said, I have (in my youth) kept corydoras' with goldfish without any problems.

If a Goldfish tries to taste a Cory (and sooner or later it will) the catfish will easily become stuck in the Goldfishes throat.
Keep long tweezers right next to the tank if you mix them.

Hi ,

At work kept 2 goldfish with a Bristlenose pleco in a cold water tank for 3 years without any problems. He seemed just as happy in cold as he does in his new tropical set up.

As always, the question isn't whether you CAN do it, it's SHOULD you do it. You CAN do alot of things you SHOULDN'T.
