Hi. I'm looking for some options as far as cats go for my 32 Gal community tank. The obvious choice are cory's (I have left enough room in my tank for 5 of them) , however I would like to stay away from them if possible. Are there othere options for a small community tank like mine or are cory's the only choice?

pim pictus cats are pretty cool I had 2 of them in my original setup of my 38gal. Very lively most of the time and they would often "bark" (its a sound they make with the bones of their fins that can be heard as a clicking outside of the tank). Those would be my next recommendation.

I have a couple of upside-down catfish. They're very fun to watch and will eat just about anything you put in the tank. They will even come and eat at the surface when I feed flakes to the my danios. They do like very good hiding places for resting.

I would add some bumble bee cats they only gown to about 4 inches and they eat the scrap food that may have fallen onto your substrate.

but here is just one downside they tend to eithrt hide in caves or in/under plants

How about a small pleco, like a clown or a bristle nose. If you want to spend more, you could go for something like a pectolia species.
