Hello everyone.
I know that many of you have cats along with fish, and I would like to solicit your advice. My hubby has suggested that we get a kitten (yippy), but I have never had a cat. I guess I grew up in a dog household. I wonder what I should keep in mind when trying to cat-proof the house. Have you have problems with cats and fish tanks? How did you fix them? Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!

most cats like drinking form the filters and sitting on top of the aquariums IME.

you shouldnt have any problems...if having a cat on the tank bothers you put a little tinfoil on it..he/she wont like that.

(=^_^=)

as long as they cant get in the tank you dont have to worry about it. They will get on top no matter how hard you try to keep them off. We were more worried about the cats safety than the fish, they tried to eat him lol.

Like fishcatch said, they like drinking from the filters.

Wow! Quick responce time. Thanks for all of the advice. If anyone thinks of something else let me know.

I have a cat with all my fish. He just likes to drink fish water, but not kill fish... OH CRAP! I left my cat in my room! He's going to poop all over the place! Sry, random...

:OT: My 'problem' is my dog likes to drink from the watering can as I do water changes. It's very cute as long as she dosen't scratch the glass.

But back on subject, my cat has never looked twice at my tanks, and I have a ten gallon with no top on the floor! Like I said the dog is more of an issue in my house.

I have 3 cats and they just sit and jump and swat at my fish, its too high for them to jump on.

Jenna (my cat) likes to watch my fish and sometimes goes meh meh meh which is their hunting sound but I have never had problems with her and the fish. Make sure the fish tank is not too low to the ground and has a heavy top.

I have 4 cats in my household as well as 4 fishtanks. My cats ages vary from 7 years to 3 months. My cats like to sit on top of the tanks and play in the stands. Other than that I dont have any probs.

My reccomendations would be to make sure your tanks are covered well and dont leave any containers of fish food sitting on top of them to be turned over or knocked off.

Each cats personality differs..you may have no prob at all with the one you aquire...or he may love to look at, sti on....your fish tank..
