Well, not a big party or anything, but I got a check for $40 in the mail yesterday. Partial (and I do mean partial!) restitution for the softball sized chunk of granite that smashed through my windshield in October 2003. :thud: The trail and all was finished up in November of last year, and the kids are finally starting to make payments. Don't know if this will be the first and only, or if I will actually get the full amount, but it sure made my day to know that SOME payments are being made. :)  Now if I can just get compensation for my house being broken into last year, I'll maybe have a bit more faith in the justice system!

So where are you going to spend all of it?

woohoo!! well it's a start in the right direction, OG!! Glad to hear you're at least getting something for the headache of it all..... now, let's see what kind of stuff you're gonna get for your finny friends :D

That's great news!

You might actually get regular monthly checks. I got checks for two years from a guy that stole some windsurfing gear from me years ago. He had to pay or apear (in court). Once it's in the system, the courts seem to enforce it pretty well.

If this were adults, I'd agree--but with juveniles, it's not enforced very well. I called the courthouse to see if this check was for the windshield or for the kids that broke into the house, and asked if there would be more, and the county clerk said that is all depends on how good the kids are about making payments. Might be the first of many, or not. Wait and see--I'll be eager to find out which it is!

As for what I'm going to do with it...Hmmm. $40 won't do much for the fish, but it's enough to buy the vapor barrier for the floor going in downstairs, I think...
