I have a 55 gallon community tank and I was looking into a centerpiece fish for it. Something that won't eat my cardinal tetras. I was planning on an angel, but that doesn't work out, obviously. Preferably something the size of an angel. Any ideas?

Are there any other fish in the tank becides the tetras? If so what are they and how many?

We can go from there once we know the above.

Well yeah, my betta is the one I centered everything around. I looked up the Three-Spot Gourami and I like the idea as long as it gets along with the betta.

The water is hard and I'm not quite sure what the pH is at the moment. I'm at school or I'd get the last results.

Edit: Actually, I just looked further into the Three-Spot gourami and heard they're not good community fish once they get large. =/

putting a beta and a gourami together is a bit of a gamble. It could work, but I wouldn't do it unless I have a place to quickly move one of the fish too.

i don't see why an angel would be a problem, it wouldn't bother cardinals unless they are uber small juveniles
