Just had a thought. We have quite a few pieces of unglazed ceramic tile left over from our bathroom floor project. I'm wondering if this would be safe to use to make hides/caves for fishies and inverts?

Just went to the Lowe's website. Here is what we used:
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=160017-34692-G3TG16&lpage=none

My thinking was to make a couple of hides and then cover them with substrate to blend in.

What do you think?

Thx,
J.

Hmmm, says its stain resistant... unglazed ceramic and porcelain stains pretty easy in my experience. I wonder if its treated with something?

For some strange reason, I decided to try to send the manufacturer an email asking about the stain protection and such. Surprising, they got back with me really quickly. Here are their comments:

"Thank you for the email. This tile is fired at such a high temperature that it becomes stain resistant. It does not have to do with chemicals. The high temperature makes it Impervious.

The Rialto Series is a thru-body porcelain (the porcelain/color goes all the way through the tile). It does not need to be sealed. We always recommend sealing the grout. It is stain, scratch, chemical, and frost resistant. We recommend a mixture of 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water to clean."

I think judging by these comments, that it would be safe to use.
