I just finished a water change, usually I do vacuming and care for the plants. Today I changed the carbon, and washed the foam, now my quetion is, do I wash the ceramic, or change them, and how often, once a week, every 2 weeks?
The ceramic noodles are the biological filtration. If there is good mechanical filtration in front of them, you should be able top simple rinse any solids off every 3-4 weeks and call it good. If you don't have mechanical filtration first, you'll have lots more solids building up, so will need to rinse them more often.
Sort of like any filter for any contraption whether it be a car, or vacuum, etc... If you let it keep building up it will restrict the pump and cause stress on it. If the pump/filter was designed this way, I think it can be assumed that it needs cleaning.
