Changing gravel to sand

These all seem like excellent suggestions. I think I'll make the change this weekend. Thanks very much!
 
Play sand is fine, and cheap. I use it in most of my tanks.
 
I have had sand now for 4 days. I love it so far. I have noticed that the bottom becomes an interactive part of the tank. And it looks way different than when I put it in. The fishes dig here and there. Make high spots and low spots. It's just really cool.
 
I like white silica sand.. it's cheap too (50 lbs = $5)
 
i'm getting tempted to convert to sand too now!

Do you keep it at the same depth as gravel?
 
okay..I've read on this forum that some people take their fish out to change their gravel to sand. I don't have to take out my fish do I?? Yikes!
