can guppies change sex? I know it sounds stupid, but someone i know raises angelfish and says that they can. Hell there are some weird things out there. Is this one?

Thanks, and please no mean replys, they dont do any good and just make you seem like an ***

Swordtails and Mollies (I think) can change gender, not sure about guppies.

No. No livebearing tropical fish change sex. Some reef dwelling saltwater fish do change sex. It's an old myth arising from late bloomers. Some livebearers can have a very distinct triangular anal fin that "turns" into a gonadopodium later than their siblings, sometimes much later. I had a gold lyretail molly that looked female for a long long time and only recently has really shown the developed, translucent male part. I had suspected it was male for quiet a while because of its lack of growth and lack of ever getting pregnant and time bore me out. =)

Don't think so....Some turtle eggs are dependent upon temperature. At the lower temperatures eggs hatch and they are predominatly male and at a slightly higher temperature the eggs that hatch are mostly female.

I agree, there are some interesting things that happen in nature.

Someone should probably change this then. :D

So, I may still have a male turn up among my juvenile swordtails? :thm:
Yes, someone really should, but I don't have that power and I have a feeling the mods might not either.

Ya got that one right. Autopilot and hope things go according to the plan.

To my knowledge, there aren't many FW fish who can change sexes, I don't remember the species name but I think there is one West African cichlid that can, but other than that, which I have not personal found any solid validity to, I doubt that any can.

don't feel stupid, icka, i thought i had a batch of all females soon after giving them away to freinds(but kept what i couldn't give away)and then i went to the person's house to discover that i had given them 3males and 1female(or a late bloomer)...i ended up with 1male and 3female which works out well..

oh yea these were black mollies...so as Natakuseng said i don't think and fw fish can
