Changing substrate

Hello everyone!

So I want to change my substrate in one of my tanks. It is cycled, it has fish and shrimp. How can this be done without moving all my little guys out?

Umm, you'll likely lose at least some shrimp. If there's juveniles & adults you might try to siphon them out & keep them in a bucket short term.

What substrate are you switching from & to? My most successful way is to remove ~1/3 at 1 end & replace. Then move to the middle third. It helps to not go from white to dark or vs; some mixing will happen.

Why are you doing this?

I want to get rid of as many snails as I can. Plus wanted to try out a different substrate for plants.
