I'm thinking about changing my substrate to sand....mainly for my cories who have a hard time getting food from the gravel. Plus I hear its better for them. Any suggestions on how to do this? What sand to buy and where to buy it? Any info will be helpful, thanks.

you can buy play sand from home depot. it's real cheap. just remember to wash it real good

Ya, as James said, Home Depot play sand is great. Get some 5 gallon buckets, fill about a third, swish water around it (outside or in the tub)--it works best to do each batch 5 times. Ensures getting rid of impurities and reduces greatly any cloudiness. For the price it's the best IMHO. Not too fine, not too coarse, I've had no problems with my impellors.
As an addition, for color I went with Tahitian Moon black sand, rinsed about 3 times, and it looks great. Love sand.

There will be somebody that pops in and says about the Quikrete medium sand. If you have a Lowes near you it is $6 for a 50# bag and is pretty much already done up to be tossed in a tank.

I would also go with Quikrete medium sand, it's easy to clean and I never had a problem with it getting in my filters.
