The title says it all! I'm trying to set up a tank and so am looking for a cheap filter for my 45 gal...I'm afraid my 10 gallon filter just won't work :P I'm looking to spend around 16 shipped. It can be dirty as long as it works!
Thanks,
Andrew

oh yeah! i remember you.
i have a whisper 30 and a whisper 60 available. i bought a bunch of stuff from someone one time and those came with them. i've never used them. if you're interested i can see if they work tomorrow when i get out of work.

If noise is not an issue I recommend the whisper 60 for a 45g tank. Loads of flow and 2 filter elements....but it is ~ twice as noisy as a whisper 30 or 40.

Whisper 60 for $10 is a deal. You can get 6-8 filters from one pair of cheap pantyhose...no need to buy expensive filters for it.
I suggest a sponge over the intake for additional bio filtering. I use a penguin 660r sponge on mine...about $3-4

If you do need carbon, the IMAGINE brand replacements are cheaper and better than the originals.

Thanks for the advice kj5kb! Timwag2001, I'm afraid I don't have any way of reaching you in MA, so shipping is the only option. I'll take the whisper 60 since I can't exactly afford the emperor.
