Cheap Heaters, what is the deal?

Aqueon heaters are no good as well. I have had two that the thermostat light would stay on but the heater would not heat.

Drfoster got some great deals on heaters right now. Especially the Stealth 250 at $17.59

The only problem i had was with glass heaters, always must remember to turn them off during water change, if taken out of the tank the thermostat needs to be set again.. ehh 2 much hastle. Just get a visitherm. At the first sign of failure/malfunction just contact manufacturer for a replacement.

I seen that and went ahead and bought (2) 200w Stealths. Hopefully I will have better luck this time.

Stealths are awesome, I still have a 150watt that is 5 years old and still holds 78 in my 60gal and I've only ever adjusted it twice since I purchased it.

I had luck with an Aquael heater. Its my 3rd one and only one that has lasted more than a few months.

I just got a stealth and so far so good.

Quick question, what size tank do you have? You may not have enough wattage and end up going through so many heaters because they stay on constantly and wear down faster. Also if the room is usually kept cold then that might also affect the amount of time the heater runs and effectivly how fast it wears down.

After getting only Ebos for years I was forced to switch when the company was bought and the product quality suffered.

The stealths are great heaters but not cheap. If you want a good cheap submersible, try the guardians by PennPlax. They have no temp scale, so you need to adust and check a few times before you get it right. It is a black heater.

I got mine at kensfish.com which is from where I pasted the above.

I think you have it backwards, usually its the over-sized heaters that wear out faster, they switch on and off alot more times than a smaller heater. And its the thermostat that most of the time breaks, overheating or letting a tank cool.
