Cheapest place for lights?

yeah.. nobody told me that when I switched my big reef over to a planted tank-- I left the actinic lights in place along with the 10,000k bulb...

it was a disaster.. i dunno WHY algae likes blue light so much.. but it DOES

I second the DIY CFL. I'm doing that on my tank... whenever I get around to it. I've been meaning to do it for like... 5 months +

you might wanna replace that actinic bulb with a white one (assuming this is a freshwater tank.. if its salt then disregard)

actinic bulbs can cause MAD algae issues

is that true *** no one warned me and iv been fighting algae with an established tank well there goes my 75.25 bulb im goin to get deiff bulb to replace it.

I've heard of actinics causing algae issues, but I think the main issue is that they are close to worthless for plants, thus they can't out compete algae. I haven't seen any evidence that links actinics directly with algae growth.
