yea I have seen a few of these videos- the question is always how can they have the airstone running in those? notice how they never show you the top...
 
the water stays inside the tank just like the water stays in a cup after you fill it with water and then turn it upside down in a sink filled with water and pull the rim almost all of the way to the surface.

yes, but you forget about the airstone
 
it has to have one way valves around the tank, that equal the in and out pressures, keeping them ballanced.
