where can i get the best deal on gravel for my aquariums, i looked at homedepot by the concrete for stone but the looked black and a little to sharp for my cichlids - thanks tim

Home Depot garden center. They have paver sand, pea gravel, river rocks, and pond rocks. I just bought another 5 bags $21 total. In my festae pair's tank, I used 1 bag of sand, 1 bag of pea gravel, and 1 bag of pond rocks. They love it. Just be sure to rinse all of them until the water runs clear. There's a lot of dust that will milk up your water. I've been using these in my 210 for several months now with no problems.

cool - i'll have to look over that way - kinda out of season around here - looks like were about to get a foot of snow

cheap gravel

i use chicken grit.

say what? it is fed to chicken to help them digest.

it come in different sizes, from a real course sand and up.

mine was a pinkish quartsite, can be granite.

it can be crushed oyster shells, which you may not want.

it's cheap, i payed maybe $8 for 50 lb bag.

buy at feed stores and farmer co-op.

i've had it in my planted tank for almost a year and i'm happy with it.

Just upgraded from a 38gal to a 75gal two days ago. Went to Home Depot and bought 2 bags of pea gravel for less than $5. By the way, 2 bags (1 cu foot) is the perfect amount for a 75 gal.

After a lot of washing and rinsing, all the mud and most dust was removed. However the water was still farily cloudy after filling up the tank. Overnight filtering with an XP3 removed most of it. My fish (3 sevs, 2 cories, 1 oto, 1 austrialian rainbow) went in the next day and adapted very quickly to the new tank and surroundings.

The water is still a little cloudy, but I'm hoping that a few more days and the XP3 will filter out the remaining dust.

Bought mine at Walmart garden center...like you said though it is kinda a bad time of year to find it...... But it was cheap $3-4 for a 50# bag. Just be sure to wash it real good as most of this is intended for outside use and is still fairly dirty. Also you might look at the gravel real good in the bag to make sure there isnt alot of shell pieces in it that could alter your pH over time. The bag I got didnt have any shells in it at all....but depending on where the rock was gathered from and bagged up it could vary alot.

pea gravel my fav. i get it from lowes but thats what all my tanks use.
