anyone got cherry barbs are they any good?

im thining of getting like 4 in my 55 gallon aquarium

Cherry barbs are a great, hardy schooling fish...get 6 or more....very peaceful, make sure they are with equally peaceful fish....a good first egg-laying fish to breed, as are zebra danios...enjoy!

I have 4 of them in a 20g tank I have. They are, as stated above, very hardy fish. The males have a very nice red color to them and they seem to be fairly active. They though do not have to be in groups. These fish have been found to be good in singles or small groups. The males do tend to chase the females around alot so it is always better to get a 1 male to 2 female rate. Also make sure you have plenty of plants for hiding as they do prefer this. Larger fish don't seem to bother my cherries all that much. I have found them sleeping right in front of the mouth of my Blue Acara.

I think they are one of the hobbies most under-rated fish. They have a subtle beauty, hardy, and peaceful. I've noticed as well that larger fish tend to ignore them, (I wouldn't push my luck however) and that no matter the numbers of cherry Barbs in the tank they will loose school at best. Most I've kept seem to do their own thing, or swim with the Tetras.

they are very cool fish, but i had to give mine to a friend becaus they wouldnt stop nipping my betta.but if you dont have fancy fish, guppies, fancy goldfish, bettas ect you should be fine. ;) i hated getting rid of mine, they really grow on you, hope you get some they make a great eddition to most aqariums..........BETTAGURL
