Bev i am really interested in getting some of your shrimp. About a week ago i had to treat my tank with copper sulfate... i read that this is bad for inverts.. have you had any experiance with this? And do you know how long i should wait before trying inverts in the tank?

When I received my shrimp, it was 98 outside and the heat index/real feel was 111. Our air conditioning broke the day before, so it was real uncomfortable for us human-types. the shrimp, however, have done just fine. They went and hid the first day or so (I was scared I lost them), but now they're out and about!

Well, I hate to admit it, but I know very little about the duration of metals in a tank. Unless there is something to remove them, they can be harmful to inverts! I have never used or intend on using CuSO4 and therefor have never researched it  I know there is plenty of info out there regarding this and I'll make it a priority to find something relevant, but for now all I can offer is...copper is bad. :thud:

Thanks for verifying my claims Brody and gforster!

Well, I haven't found a number for lethal amounts but there's plenty of other metals (not that this is news to anyone) to worry about as well.

The metals will stay in the tank until removed. There are products out there to remove all kinds of stuff from the water but I don't know how this works with stuff in the substrate :hang:

I just received my shrimp from aquabid, and they seem to be doing well. I'm pretty excited to have them, but I have a question for you. What kind of moss were they packeged with? I like it and just wondered what to call it. I already have java moss, and it sure didn't look like that....

Gald to hear it domlou. I'm pretty sure it is java moss. It looks different probably due to the fact that I keep it in a glass jar and it isn't in the best of health. It tends to take over the tank if I leave it in there. Give it some time and it should come around to look the same. I do have other mosses but I'm pretty certain it was java moss I included with the shrimp. I didn't pack najas grass instead did I? I did have a couple ppl ask for that so it's possible I used that instead of moss.

I haven't used Eco paku but know others that have and keep shrimp as well.

no...I already have najas, well, maybe you're right, or maybe what I have isn't java moss, it sure doesn't grow very fast... Anyway, my wife loves the shrimp. Thanks again.

 When the other 1/2 is happy...everyone is happy
