Hey I was reading the other thread about cleaner clams and I called the local hy-vee and they have a few pounds of cherry stones they from the ocean and out of Rhode Island...are these tank safe or will they die?

I believe a tropical reef tank would be much too warm for them. You might be able to keep them alive in a coldwater marine setup, but even then I think it would be difficult.

At the bottom of the Sound, in the mud where the clams live, I would be surprised it it got over 60 degrees at any point.

id second what sploke says. New england water never really gets to warm, not even on the surface... nevermind down on the bottom where the clams are taken from.

"These clams do not desire much light and in fact they will try to burrow into the sand or mud for cover. They tolerate a wide range of temperature (35 to 90 degrees F.). "

Sweet taken from the other thread about clams!!!!!

no kidding, i would have never imagined. This probably means that they are found throughout the Atlantic, not just in the new england area. I would be very careful on temperature acclimation however, because they may be able to withstand the temperatures... but they certainly arent used to it.
