I am have decided to try my hand at breeding/raising cichlids...

getting them to breed was easy enough, but how to I properly take care of the fry??

I have a couple Protomelas Stevani Taiwan females holding..

any advice is welcome!!!

Depends on how much you want to save the fry because once she spits the babies they will become fish food and if your lucky maybe one or two may make it to adulthood..

If you want maximum fry survival you will need to either strip the female of fry or relocate her to another setup let her spit the fry and then remover her..

I do want to get keep fry alive.. am setting up a 10g for them.. Females have only been holding for a couple days and this is their first batch...

I had one female spit after a couple days...:irked:

If you are going to strip/remove female I would wait until they've been holding for 2 weeks. If the fry don't have their egg sacks anymore they should take crushed flake right away. Don't worry if the females spit early. Sometimes it take a few tries before they get it right.

Thats what I read... so I didnt want to get too excited about this... I will probably set up the 10g "nursery" this weekend then.....:p:

The male and a female have been "making love" all morning... sooo cool to watch!! How long will they go at it?? They have been busy for a couple hours now...

Im hoping that this girl will incubate the eggs!!

It could take a while but once they are done he shouldn't harass her too much..
