is it true that increasing the temperature of the tank make the colours of cichlid more intense?and if so what is the max i should have teh temp at?

That is not true. Higher temps just increases metabelism (makes them eat more== more waste.

Best way to bring out the colors is to make them as comfortable as possible, provide them with a mate. I've heard color enhancing food actually does work, but I've found a varied diet of dry and several frozen foods works just as good.
