Cichlid compatibility

If they giraffes are smaller than the rest of the cichlids, the small ones might just be terrorized by the bigger ones...we had a venustus but she was terrorized so we had to take her back...she was much smaller than the rest of them...or keep them in a tank until they reach a good size to defend themselves then maybe ya got a shot...but other than that, if ya do go with them good luck...

they were pretty small, but im thinking there is room for them...lots of caves...
 
A 55gal is too small for three venustus (which get upwards of 10"). Probably not all that compatible in mbuna set-ups as well due to differences in aggression levels and dietary requirements.

Edit: by the way do you have any pics of your male johanni's and male maingano's side by side (or at least in the same shot?). I'd love to see the comparison of the two species.
