Cichlid ID

I help out at my lfs, cleaning and maintaining the FW side. We always get trade ins, and the owners never seem to know what kind of fish it is. And I am not real great with cichlid ID, so I am going to ask for a little help on this one.

So, who am I?

It looks like a Jewel Cichlid, but not positive.

It's what's known as a Neon Jewel. The taxonomy of the fish is unclear, and it is thought to possibly be an aquarium produced hybrid.

Look as if it has some sort of Jack Dempsey in it. But I think the neon jewel subrosa mentioned is correct ive hesrd of them before

yeah its a Jewel Cichlid Hemichromis bimaculatus

According to this source its an interspecies hybrid, but as Sub said the specifics are still unknown. Basically just Hemichromis sp. "Neon"

Thank you! I thought it looked a lot like a jewel, and a little like a Jack Dempsey, but not entirely like either. Now I can put a label on the tank.
