cichlid pellets

Yeah either they don't like them or they r just not used to them because when you have ur fish on something for a long time change don't happen easily!! Since it cost so much at feeding time i would give them their regular food and just put in a few every feeding time over time the may/should adjust to them
 
jenny may have something with gradually adding some to the usual flakes you've been feeding. I bought a can of Tetracichlid cichlid sticks, and that's working out ok. The only thing I don't like about it, is that it clouds the water for awhile after feeding, even tho it says it won't on the can! At any rate, good luck, and I hope you find a solution!

Mine too; they will sometimes take one and leg it into a corner where it is spat out a couple of times before its down and then they come back for another one. I was curious when I saw it first, checked it out and apparently it is quite normal.

Good idea by Jenny to mix some of new stuff with the old and gradually putting more and more of the new, if you're trying to swap them over.
 
i would try hikari cichlid gold that seems the best and my cichlids liked it. also gave them grreat color. I wouldnt give them flakes cuz when they grow they will be so used to flakes they wont touch pellots and that can be a problem for a 6 inch cichlid becuz they will eat a can of flakes in a week and still be hungry. I would just keep with the pellots I personally hate using flakes for cichlids.
 
Yea, I found that they need soaking first. Also, I need to soak them before I use them as the fish aren't fans of feeding from the surface if the pellets float.

In my experience, the best sinking pellets that are more readily available are New Life Spectrum and HBH Super Soft.

I will consider this next time I restock, as soaking them (and having to squash them up a bit) means it's more bother when the wife / son has to do a feed :)
 
Well, we bought sinking pellets for the loach yesterday and the cichlids went after them, so this could be the issue. None of them look underfed (they are little piggies). We got a smalled cichlid pellet for them and they do better with it. I think that maybe its partly size, partly that it floats, who knows... Maybe they were chewing on it...
