Cichlids and plecos?

What kind of pleco? If you have common sailfin you will need to remove one. They get quite large and a 55 is too small for 2. None - Malawi cichlids have different water requirements from plecos and should not be stocked together.
Thanks for your information. Ive had the plecos for quite a while and they havent much in the past few months. So they may be at their adult size. My neighbor currently has a 75g with probably 18 cichlids and he just purchased a pleco, so far they seem to be fine but I just wanted more opinons on wether i sohuld do it or not.
Its a hit n miss situation some will work and some wont and its all personality issues so you may have a fish your neighbor has and the same pleco it could work for him but may not for you..
I have albino bristelnose plecos in my ocellatus shellie setup and they are fine.. i had some albino bristelnose plecos in my 55gal shellie setup with brevis and multi's and the plecos were killed..

what kind of plecos are those? I hope they are BNs or another variety and not commons.. because a 55g is borderline too small for even 1 common pleco
I'd say way below borderline. A 'common' pleco can get anywhere from 10-12" to 2 feet long. Upwards of 100 gallons is needed.

Personally don't recommend plecos in African setups.....I have not had much luck with them living too long.

I really couldnt see a cichlid attacking a 12" long pleco... but I guess anything is possible
Thats why I said "borderline".. A smaller common would do ok in a 55g.. but generally they get much to big-- it would depend on the particular fish you have and how large it is going to get (which is hard to determine)
