I think ahlis need more swimming room than a 30g cube.

If you want some interesting cichlids check out apistogramma species, rams and my personal favourite for a tank that size, tanganyikan shell dwellers.

Yeah Ahli's get to reach 8" and need something bigger than a 30g, I have a 55g African Tank now set up and I'm putting an Ahli in it, but i would like to upgrade from a 55g to a 150g tank for my Africans.

I would go with this. Also could have juli pair instead of calvus, your choice.
