cichlids get hexamita?

do cichlids easily get hexamita?
i noticed my argentea's feces are long and clear whitish.
i've been feeding him sera granu green but lately he hasn't eaten much.
could it be hexamita? also noticed that his/her breeding tube is showing. advice pls.
i live in a tropical country and the temperature is about 30 deg celcius up. its summertime here. really warm .

Yes, various Cichlid can.

It is Parasitic.

Apparently, it mainly effect's Gouramies, Oscar's, Discus & Angel's!
Also known as "Hole in the Head", it's Symtom's include:

Panting, Scratching, Loss of appetite, uneven swimming or Pin sized or Larger holes appearing on the head, (Hence the name)!!

You're tank temp is high, get as much oxygen into the water as you possibly can, you're Cichlid's will thrive on this!


Check on this condition for remedies.

Also, PLEASE watch out for secondery infection's from this!!

Sorry, i can't recommend a treatment, but, luckily i have NEVER Had any prob's like this!! And i live in Scotland, so any remedies i would suggest, you may not be able to get they're. I know MELAFIX work's on open sore's and wounds, but, you should do a search for your topic, for best result's!! In is site AND other's.

metronidazole will kill Hex, and do so very effectively.
Met also does a pretty good job on a few other internal paraites. If you can get the powdered stuff from Seachem, just mix a little in a very small quantity of tank water and soak their food in it. overdosing is next to impossible, and the meds are much more effective if ingested than they are suspended in the water column.

Just for the record, There is little proof that hex causes HITH, and when you kill hexamita, Hole in the head will remain. not to mentiion that there are cases of hole in the head that do not have hexamita present at all. The med manufacturers have clung tightly to this myth, but reality is that a true cause of Hole in the head has never been totally proven, and hexamita doesn't have to be present for hITH to develope.

mmmm just thought i'd up this thread
planning to feed some metro to my arowana,
will be using flagyll forte. how much do i put into the food?
since flagyll is a tablet.
i'm planning to put some into a piece of shrimp. how much do i use?
1/8 of the tablet? or less?
