Cinder Blocks as Tank Support

yes, I think I would prefer wood as well, however, when I got the tank, I got it quickly, like within the day (freebie, someone was going to throw it out), and all I had time to do was put some cinders and some wood down.

Now that I have the cinders, I'm thinking I should re-use them rather than going all new.

...

@coach - you are correct, I have a 6' tank where we are now. I have a 29 and a 10 in addition to the 100g, and they are not all together, and consequently it seems like my fish stuff is all over. We are moving in the middle of next month, and I have claimed a room as an office/fish room. The room is fairly small, so I want to make the most of the space I do have. The length of the wall I'm going to place the tanks against is 10'.

So I'm planning on having a fish shelf/platform which will hold the 100g and 4 standard 10g longways all on the same wall to conserve space (the 29) will go in the front room and doesn't need to be accounted for in the office/fish room.

Right now I have 3 cinder towers 16x16 surface area evenly spaced with (2) 2x10's on top for a depth of 18.5"-ish. *(I mis-stated this in the initial post as 2x12's)*. However, if I put the 10g's longways, they will need 20" of depth, and right now I only have 18.5" - I don't want them to hang over, so I'm looking to extend my depth to accomodate them with full support.

I suppose I could add a 2x4 between the 2x10's and take the shelf/platform depth to around 22", and just center the 6' tank on the center (from front to back) of the platform, so that it will be essentially exactly the way it is supported now, and the 10's won't have much pressure to bear.

What do you guys think? Maybe I don't need extra cinder towers, just space them out more? What about it being on carpet, not a big deal?

, and I'm planning on which is how all of this will get set up again.
