I am thinking of setting up a stock tank for native fish and I have a cinder block slab I would like to lay in there for small fish.

Is that good?

Will this material turn the water bad?

Thanks

It "shouldn't", but do not take my word. You might just need to experiment for yourself. I know someone who did just this, and I forget why he had the slab in the tank but it was in there for 5-6 years for some reason. All fish were fine.

I prefer to use something like slate or such. You can test any rock that you may wish to place in the tank to see if it will affect the PH by taking some muratic(sp?) acid and placing a few drops on a clean (washed) piece. If it foams there is something in it that will raise the PH.

Not real sure about the blocks you're talking about though. If it's the concrete blocks that I'm thinking of, it may affect PH, BUT it may not affect it much to make any dent at all depending on how many gallon the tank is.

Hope this helps.

another thing I noticed is that the blocks that I was using raised my PH no big deal the fish and the blocks have been in there together since the begining......I just took them out to change aroung my tank but I PLan to use them again when I want a high ph.
