I have been looking for tanks and found a few FS ads that caught my eye. Only problem is I can't seem to get a response. I've tried each ad 2 or 3 times asking for the poster to send me pics or give me some additional info. This has gone on for about 2 weeks now. I don't think it's a coincidence and I'm thinking either I'm doing this wrong or my emails are getting lost.

First off, I've never used CL before so it may be entirely me. Basically I am copy-pasting the 'reply to' address into my yahoo mail account and sending from there, rather than outlook since I don't want to spend the time configuring that...

So am I doing this correctly? I can't see any reason why the messages are not going through and I'm starting to think it may just be yahoo (who's email system has become garbage lately).

I do the same thing (except copy/paste to my gmail account) and sometimes I get responses and sometimes not. Anymore if I don't get one I figure either it's already gone and they haven't deleted the ad or they have someone lined up and don't want to respond unless that person flakes out, and some people don't know all the details, and don't care to figure them out so they sell it to the first person that'll just take it as-is and sight-unseen.....there are tons of excuses and they mostly boil down to people either being too lazy or too overwhelmed with responses to reply. But using Yahoo shouldn't be a problem, it's a valid email address going to another valid email (supposing CL's random generator is working/forwarding correctly). I'm sorry I don't have any suggestiongs for you, but good luck!

Leave the messages as simple as possible and write in the subject "Interested in craigslist ad" then something like...

"I am very interested in your (description of item) on craigslist. I'd like to know if it is still available and if possible, please send me pics (I usually ask dimensions on tanks as well.)"

This works wonders- people write me back just to let me know its gone if it is. They dont want to have to read a lot, and dont want to do more than 1 thing. If they get the message, they'll write you back- then you can reply with a second or third question. :D Just let them think you are REALLY interested and keep it simple! ;)

that is the same way I do it and it works...

try setting up a gmail account and see if that works...

I would highly doubt that its a problem with your Yahoo email, its most likely that they are just getting a lot of replies or its already gone.

In your reply that you send, make sure you include some contact information. If you put a name and phone number you increase the chances that they will contact you. The person selling may find it easier to call and negotiate pick up etc than email back and forth.
