CL Scam?

Hi All
That definitely sounds like a scam. In fact I had the exact same response a few times for different "items" I posted on CL. I just ignored all of them but kept their E-mail addresses just in case.

"I will also like you to know that I will be paying via check due to the distance and it will be over night payment. My secretary in the state will issue the check for the payment."

Gee, those Nigerian lottery winners sure do get around. "I'm far away, but my secretary isn't..." LOL. What-ev-er.

I had someone email me along the lines of this for my 46 gallon.

Hi, I would like to purchase the item you have listed.
Please give me a call at (some number with an area code I've never even heard of)

I looked up the phone number and apparently people have been getting credit card calls from that number, and it's located in like, Wisconsin or something.

When they only say, 'your item' that normally is a heads up for a scam.
The should be saying, 'the tank' or something similar.

I am very interested in this thread on this forum. I will get my secretary to reply to it later. Please tell me you bank account number and ATM pin so I can get her to reply more promptly and with respect.

I am willing to pay $50 if you hold off replying to anyone else on this thread before my secretary posts a reply.

I'VE BEEN HIT AGAIN

Different listing but started off the same way...a simple "I am interested" type of email. Now I get this:

Hello,
Thanks for the swift reply.I am okay with the condition and price of
the item and am ready for its purchase.I'll be paying you with a
certified Bank Check and the payment will be issue out to you Via Ups
Courier service I'll be responsible for the pick-up,while you hold on
my behalf. Once you receive this, my mover's will come for the pick up
at your place.I will be needing the following information to issue out
the payment......
1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address(Physical)....Not P.O.box
3.Your phone number

** Please note that the payment will be overnight to your address and
it will be delivered within 3 days.I will also wait for the check to
clear before i have my mover come for the pick up

Take Care...
Who needs a freakin' mover for a soprano saxophone that weighs maybe 20 pounds...seriously I'm not that stupid :wall:

You'll get used to it and be able to weed out the scams.

The ones that really tick me off are the people that email me asking "Is the *insert item here*/item still available?"

Half the time it's a scam, the other half its a person who's really interested. But I have to waste my time saying "yes, it's still available, blah blah blah".

I've had some responses like that also. When I was interested in a car someone was selling. Do they really think people will fall for that? Wait, better yet, it's sad that people DO fall for that.

100% scam, i received a similar email when post some computers parts on craiglist....
