clam or soemthing, coverd in sand by it's self?

just a little while ago i found this samll 1/2 inch long by 1/8 deep by 1/4inch wide clam or oister, or something... it was floatin oddly sort of at the top with it's shell closed... i then touched it and it droped to the substrate...
later 30min or so... i looked at it again... and the thing covered its self in sand and is open by the looks of it...

here is a pic probably cant tell me much by it... but is this normal? what is it? what is it doing?

oh and its alive, i saw it move by it's self... when i took the pics, and i know it wasnt one of my crabs becasue i checked the location of them b4 posting..
but who know... hopefully u do...

lol i will later, i didnt have much time when i posted it, i had a college class that i was going to be late for...

will post it later

oh and the sand looks like it was pushed/ picked up and put on top of the clam or whatever it is, and not like it dug it's self in, if that helps any more...

alright i would take a photo, but there is only a trail from where he was going under a peice of live rock, is this normal for a clam to be moving all around like this on it's own?
