Classic Aquarium Equipment

Yep, box bubblers like that were the first I used too. I still use them occasionally, but prefer the inexpensive sponge bubblers from eBay instead.

My first filter was also a floss and carbon box filter. It was one of the Hartz Mountain filters I bought at Docktor's Pet Center. Docktor's Pet center chain went defunct years ago.

Hartz Mountain is still around but is owned by a Japanese investment firm now.

I'm running 20 of these corner filters in my fish house as we speak. Well the Lee Economy series anyway. No carbon anymore though. I don't run carbon in any of my filters. I am also running some of my old air filters on some tanks. Real simple and they work. And less than $2 each

The basic design of most under gravel filters has not changed much from the Metaframe models.
Nektonics did have a better design, but they disappeared years ago
