I understand the new 'classic' 2217's contain a ready-to-use media container.

This media container neatly holds all of the media, similar (I understand) to the basket system used on the Eheim Pro II and III...

Want to confirm that and also wondering if one can be bought for a 'real' 10+ year old classic.

no. the 2213,2215 and 2217 do not have the basket system that the pro, pro2, and pro3 utilize. as far as the second question-- i don't really understand what you are saying.--jeff

Thanks for your reply but are you sure: Eheim 2217 Filter Classic Plus ('media container' next to the canister)

The picture suggests a unit that fits inside of the canister.

2nd question was based on the 1st... If new 'classics' sell with a media container, wondering if I could buy a media container for my 2217 - which is 10+ years old and truly a classic!

oh sorry, i didn't know it was the classic "plus" from your 1st thread. they do come with a media container. as far as retrofitting that container in the old 2217- i'm not sure. if you find that it does work can you let me know? maybe pm me. i have a 2215 and a 2217 classic. i'm tired of "scooping" the substate out of the canister. it would definitely be easier if it was all compatmentalized. thanks--jeff

I just got new 2213s, and yes, that is a media basket that lifts right out of the canister. Within that basket, the media just sits on top of each other with filter floss dividers. I haven't had to do a cleaning yet, but from what I've read, you basically take out the basket and shake it in a bucket of dechlorinated water to rinse it. When the floss needs replacing though, it will involve scooping the ceramic media out of the basket to get to the floss.

I do not know if the media basket would fit in older models. I'd suggest e-mailing Eheim and asking.
