I just recently thought I would try my hand at the ole clay pot cave that I hear all the rave about :)

Anyway, when I put it in the tank it almost seems to release this string of tiny bubbles or maybe it's clay I dunno but it bubbles out the top it looks like. I did wash it after I broke and sanded the pot. I'm just not sure if this is normal, like maybe oxygen bubbles just working it's way into the cracks, or what. Right now I just left it sitting in a tank that's not in use. Just transferred the fish out of a 5 gallon.

Any ideas?

By 'washed it' you mean rinsed it with water only, not soap, right?
It will take a bit for it to soak up water, and you might be seeing trapped air escaping from the tiny pores in the clay.

That's happened when I put things in my tanks too-- I figure it's just trapped air.

Yeah, its the pourous texture of the clay out-gassing. In fact, a trick to use for transporting fish in a tub is to throw in a handful of dry pot shards - the bubbling will help replenish (a little) O2
