Clay Pots for tank

This is going to be a strange question so bear with me here. For christmas I received a Homer Simpson Chia Pet. I was going to paint it since it is just clay colored right now. If I paint it can I put it in my tank?

Homer simpson, so what does it come with like two seeds? Just kidding, I know there is a kind of aquarium safe paint, but i'm not sure of the brand. You should try to grow some java moss on it and give him a cool afro.

I was thinking of that, but I have cichlids so they would probably eat it.

i know it wont look as cool with out being painted but i wouldnt risk it.
