Clean HOB filter

Penguins and AC's cost about the same, always swish the filter meadia in a pail of your tank water when ever it gets dirty, replace it if it becomes tathered or fuzzy looking, i swish ours about every 2 weeks or so.......:)

Ok so I just picked up a Penguin 100 (was going to get the 150 but I don't know that it will fit in the cut out on my tank hood).......... so my next question, whats the best way to switch filters over? I don't have room to have them both running on the same tank, so how do I switch without causing a mini cycle?

What if the filter media is like brown...I take you have to replace then right?

Try to put as much old media in the new filter as possible, you may have to cut it up a little and stuff it in the new filter, make sure to check your water at least once a day for about a week,,,

If your media is brown try to clean it off with some tank water, swish it around in a bowl or some thing, you may need new media if it is plugged up...

Is the P-100 on the 10 or 20 gal.......:)

I think there is some thread hi-jacking going on here.......... I have a 10 gallon and just picked up a P-100 to go on there.

That should be a good filter for a 10 gal, it's rated at 100 gph, a little less with media, .........:)

I managed to stuff the entire old filter in with the new one, how long should I aim to leave it in there? The cover does not fit on properly with both filters wedged in there (and I am sure the flow is reduced a little with 2 filters in there), so I don't want to leave it any longer than I have to.

About a week should do it. this will give the bio wheel a chance to get totally satuated..Make sure to watch your wp's during this time.......:)

Should the penguin be making a bunch of noise? its mostly been silent, but after a couple of hours is rattling and making a pretty loud noise. I took out the impeller to check there was nothing stuck, it stopped making the noise, but after about 3 hours has started again.

It sounds like its coming from the intake, and not the bio wheel.
