Hi everyone im very new to salt water aquarium but I am very eager to learn and I have been doing a lot of research.

I'm thinking of changing my 75 gallon fresh water tank in my basement into a salt water tank I read somewhere that there is a fish to gallon ratio I hope my calculations were correct

I have chosen a wonderful selection of fish

Fire goby
1

Blue Yellow dwarf angel
1

Flame Angel
1

Royal Gramma
1

Bleeny
1

Threadfin
1

Purple Tail Goby
3

Yellow Tang
1

Clown
2

Yellow Tail Damsel
4

it took us almost a week to make up our minds and get the right measurements of the fish at full grown to fit our tank I hope there isn’t any fish on the list that cannot be together

I also am thinking of putting some live rock in the tank as well, did some research on that I know I'm suppose to put the rock first and introduce the fish later but my question is about Marine Invertebrates

I really would like to put shrimp, hermit crabs and turbo snails in my tank the shrimps are just very beautiful, we traveled around Toronto looking for some good places to purchase some live rock, fish and invertebrates and saw some amazing shrimp!

I was just wondering if any of you guys had any great recommendations for shrimp and how many is a good amount for my tank also for hermit crabs and snails. I really don’t want a too crowded tank just very fresh neat and clean natural look. :) I would really like my shrimp to school togther do they???

About the turbo snails , I know with my other fresh water tank there was some sort of infestation of snails of some sort that kept multiplying when I introduced some plant that I purchased to it I really don’t want that to happen in my salt water tank. Will the turbo snails breed and multiply or stay at a stable number in my tank?
This may seem like a dumb question but AStrea Turbo Snail vs, Mexican Turbo Snail can I have both in the same tank?:help:

Please be gentle with comments as I am new to this and would really like to get started soon I will be posting my progress as I start my work thanks in advance guys!!!! :):)

Fire goby
1 Nice choice

Blue Yellow dwarf angel
1

Flame Angel Personally i wouldn't risk mixing these Angels
1

Royal Gramma Not had experience with one of these
1

Bleeny Which one?
1

Threadfin Not had experience with one of these
1

Purple Tail Goby Not heard of these unless you mean a purple firefish, in which case I wouldn't mix with the fire goby and . JMO
3

Yellow Tang I'd add last as the can't be bullyish
1

Clown Which ones?
2

Yellow Tail Damsel never in a million years could I recommend a damsel:grinyes: but that is just my opinion. I find them very terrotial and aggressive.

Personally I think it's a lot of fish for a 75 gal but that is JMO.

Once you've added rock (and sand if using) you need to let the tank cycle. Then you can add the CUC (Clean Up Crew) and then the rest - but slowly:)

I love skunk cleaner shrimp and they are the least shy IME. I have also had peppermints and blood shrimps but they are all very shy compared to the skumks. Sexy shrimp are cute but very small!!!

Yes you can mix snails . They do breed but whether or not they actually make it to adulthood depends on whether or not they get eaten:grinyes: I have quite a few baby snails that I only see at night but certainly not big enough to worry about plague proportions.

Have made some comments in red. Sounds like you're off to a good start. If posting your progress, don't forget the photos, we all love photos here:grinyes:

yah everyone is telling me not to mix angels but the pet store guy told me it was okay haha maybe hes jsut trying to make a sale!!

i was tihnking of getting lawnmower blenny they are kinda cool i saw one at the pet store just chilling on a rock haha and they grow to fit with the other fish, for clown fish im getting two Amphiprion percula - Orange clownfish haha i had to search it up cause i forgot the name but yah man i tihnk the hardest part is goign to be the filtration system im making a refugium under the stand of my tank and just getting started on that with my brother i hope this turns out well !!! wish me luck :D

The gramma can also be very territorial and make life miserable for any other fish, I agree that your fish load is quite heavy or would be for a new system. Please consider using a quarantine tank for your fish also, it will help save you a lot of grief later on. For a clean up crew, please see this article. Hope it is of use.

It not really that many fish..... It is alittle on the overstocked side but Im pretty sure they will be fine. He chose the smaller species of fish. but I will strongly dissagree with the damsels. Even though yellow tailed damsels are considered to be less aggressive, i still wouldnt risk it. I used to have sum and they just kept on nipping at my hand when i was cleaning the tank! It just got annoying and they started to grow teeth!!!! well it still didnt hurt that much but it got sufficiently annoying to the point that I returned them to the store. They are just too territorial.

i dont like clowns to much as you can see i have one and when they mature the female is so aggressive and bites hard...i only have 2 fish in my 75 currently but stay away from anything related to damsels IMO

Yea the larger of my two clowns nip me,lol especially when im doing algal work in the tank.

Just my 2 cents

I've been told that angels that are from different oceans technically would be ok because they most likely have never seen each other and wouldn't fight but personally the risk is there I wouldn't do it

You need to be slightly more specific with your fish names cause a threadfin can be either a "Look Down" or a Threadfin [FONT=arial,sans-serif][SIZE=-1]Butterflyfish...I'm pretty sure you are talking about a butterfly fish inwhich STAY AWAY from..They are very peaceful fish and between your damsels and clowns the fish will starve then fight for food

and the fuge will be the easiest of your tasks I promise lol..You'll find out that pickin your fish and corals will be the hardest part

good luck tho

and fyi....the easiest way to get into this hobby and get the right info is..read a few books/articles online, talk to your lfs (more then 1 if possible), talk on this board or others, come up with your own conclusion, rinse, and repeat
