Cleaning a gravel vacuum

I cleaned mine with a mixture of bleach and water that I poured in and let it stand in the hose for some time. Then I hooked the hose to the sink and ran lots of water through it -- lots of black gunk left the hose. Then I made a dechlor solution and poured that in and sloshed it back and forth and let it sit and sloshed some more. Then ran lots more water. Sparkly clean hose!

So are you saying that having black tubing would inhibit growth?

I have used the bleach solution before and it works. I should try the hot water method though.

The Black tubing would inhibit you seeing the growth.

I have several with clear tubing. I drain the tubing and hang it to dry after use. No problems.

Depending on what the tubing costs, it may be more cost-effective to just buy new tubing.

Why bother when bleach and water only takes a few hours of soaking?

Bleach and water will soften the grime but won't remove it. It has to be brushed off.
