I picked up a used fluval 204 from my friend and I was trying to figure out how to clean and disinfect (sp) it. It was also used used on a saltwater tank so I was planning on running it without media on my unstocked tank for a few days just to flush it out. It should be fine after that I assume. Anyway if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

bleach

just put bleach and water in a tub and let the filtter run after a day or so it should be fine . :dance2:

Just soak all parts possible in Distilled White Vinegar. This will disinfect the parts and the residue will not harm fish. Just rinse it after the 2 hours. You could put it in vinegar before you go to bed and rinse it in the morning. This is what Hagen and Tetra tells me to do with the used ones I buy from eBay. Since the Fluval is made by Hagen, I always trust them.
